Erscott's Reef

Along the northern edge of Erscott’s Hole lies Erscott’s Reef. This amazing marine system contains the greatest number of habitat types within the lagoon. Ranging from the high energy wave impact zone on the western edge of the reef to the protected low energy zone on the shallower eastern margins of the reef.

Boasting the greatest coral density and diversity within the lagoon, Erscott’s reef offers a range of snorkelling experiences. Explore the western end of the reef where magnificent coral walls plunge from the reefs crest to the snow white coralline sand fringing the reefs base. This deeper lagoon environment is home to a vast array of beautiful reef fish species and other shyer marine inhabitants including the Painted Crayfish (Panularis versicolour), Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Black Sting Rays (Dasyatis thetidis) are also often observed. Relax as you drift over the shallower eastern side of the reef and view the fragile coral gardens dominated by brightly coloured tropical species.
