Mt Gower Trek

Join Island Naturalist Dean Hiscox on the Mt Gower Trek. Dean was an Island Ranger for 16 years and his extensive knowledge will ensure a unique and memorable day in which you will learn about the Island’s World Heritage values and its amazing natural history. The Mount Gower Trek justly deserves its ranking as one of Australia’s top day walks. Taking approximately five hours to reach the summit at 875 metres and another four hours to return, this trek should not be taken lightly.

Walkers joining Dean on this amazing trek will marvel at the breathtaking views of Balls Pyramid, Mt Lidgbird, the lagoon and the Island’s northern settlement area. Discover the mist forest on the summit of Mt Gower containing trees, ferns, mosses and orchids seen nowhere else on the planet. As an A class bird bander and manager of the Island’s Woodhen monitoring program for many years, Dean will reveal to you the secret lives of some of the Island’s rarer bird species. From March to September walkers will share the summit environment with a unique winter breeding seabird, the Providence petrel (Pterodroma solandri).

To ensure a personal experience, the walking group is limited to a maximum number of 15 hikers. Early bookings by email or phone are essential to secure your place on this must-do trek.
A private Trek is available for those seeking the ultimate solitude of this mountain environment or wishing to set their own pace.
