Blackburn Island & Natural History Tour

Surrounding Lord Howe Island are 27 volcanic islets. A number of these rugged and remote islets are important seabird rookeries which have a unique ecosystem of their own.

Located on the western edge of the lagoon, Blackburn Island is the most accessible of these volcanic islets. During the summer months Blackburn Island is home to a large population of Wedge-tailed Shearwater (Puffinus pacificus), commonly referred to as muttonbirds.

Join Island Naturalist Dean and learn about the fascinating natural and cultural heritage values of Blackburn Island. Observe down-covered, Wedge-tailed Shearwater chicks and learn about the migratory and foraging behaviour of this species.

Transport to Blackburn Island is by Glass Bottom Boat. Reef booties are provided free of charge for this tour which operates from February to April.
